How KIOMM Was Founded

Leah Kamau

KIOMM was founded as a result of the desperation, hopelessness and the growing rate of poverty and crime in streets of Nairobi and in major cities around the country.
My City, once called "The Green City in the Sun" had become a shelter for the helpless, hopeless and desperate. Families living on the streets. Young children fending for themselves from dust bins (trash cans) to get something to eat, begging from pedestrians and sometimes harassing them for money. At night when one is preparing to sleep on a comfortable bed, these families on the street would be preparing to sleep on the street corners covering themselves with card boards to keep warm. These families living on the streets and especially the girls, are subject to cruelty and crime; rape, murder, prostitution and drugs Just to name a few.

Just stop for a moment and think about these families. Is this the children we expect to be tomorrows responsible citizens. For how long are they going to live in this misery? They deserve better living conditions. I can choose to ignore it or I can choose to do something about it. I chose to do something about it and as a result, KIOMM Foundation, Inc was born in October of 2004.

We should be thankful for the position we're in today. We can take advantage of this positions to impact some changes in someone’s life today for a better tomorrow. We will take pride in seeing a child smile because of the difference We have made today. It starts with me and together we can make a difference.
Through sponsorship, KIOMM Foundation has started assisting struggling communities with Education, Healthcare and Community Development.

KIOMM Foundation will work with the growing needs of entire communities to help achieve the transformation that brings hope to the lives of the children and the entire community. We are going to strive to break the cycles of poverty that create desperate living conditions for many. Children are our future. Let us carry out the vision through them and they will carry the vision through to the next generation. Let us light a candle in the darkness and shine the world
